Set 2 - ***Eyes*** opens the suite beautifully, and, you know, it's very, very hard to dislike virtually any version of this old fave post-Branford. It's as if they spent all their energy with those first two numbers.

Absurdities of such compilation lists aside, this reading *is* quite something - I did indeed find myself raising my eyebrows and giving a respectful whistle when the Aesop-like coda came crashing in. Set 1 opens with a really *serious* fire-powered Bertha and Jack Straw the latter I've seen more than a few times on this-or-the-other 'best of all time' list. This matrix-like board is lush and rich, Phil quite delightfully and conspicuously standing out in the mix. I do think the '90 Expo run is a tad overrated, when all's said and done, but this night contains probably the best sampling of music from the stand.
